Wireless

Wireless Team conducts research and development activities on various wireless technologies and our scope broadly covers advanced Layer 1 baseband processing, Layer 2 and 3 protocol design and development. Over the years, our experience and core competencies comprise of the following specific areas:

  1. Standardization activities for Millimeter wave, Long Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX.
  2. Research on baseband algorithms and hardware prototyping.
  3. Design and develop various wireless protocol stacks for Bluetooth, DVB-H, GSM and UMTS systems
  4. Conformance testing for UMTS & Bluetooth

In addition, we are always investigating how to integrate new and/or old wireless communication technologies into products to improve quality of life, which Panasonic has always strived to achieve.

Our R&D Activities

Milliwave Research and Standardization

wl02

With multiple Giga Hz bandwidth available worldwide, 60GHz millimeter wave (mmW) technology can provide more than 1Gbps data rate and, wireless transmission and reception in Personal Area Network (PAN) will be possible. We are participating in different standardization activities to make it a reality. Our research covers various techniques and algorithm in both physical and MAC layers.

wl03

Millimeter wave can also be applied to reduce pedestrian and blind spot accidents in the intelligent transport system (ITS). We are actively researching on how to reduce the cost of implementation and power consumption with improved sensing capabilities.

Bluetooth Healthcare Development

wl01

In addition to our research activities, we have also embarked into development activities and are currently developing latest Bluetooth technology on Health Device Profile (HDP) for health and wellness devices that are Continua compliant so as to eliminate inter-operability problem that used to exist between different health device vendors.

LTE & WiMax Standardization Activities

In order to be in the front line of the current wireless WAN technologies and to contribute our past experience and expertise in GSM and UMTS to the wireless communities, we are active participants of 3GPP LTE and IEEE WiMAX standardization conference. We contribute by proposing new methods to make the system better in terms of future-proof, efficiency and robustness.

White Space Sensing Research

Our team also performs research and develops prototype that is capable of detecting unused frequency band in the TV spectrum. With the termination of analog TV in the years to come, unused frequency band known as ‘white space’ may be used for other purposes e.g. wireless broadband access. However to achieve this, a ‘white space’ sensing device is required to detect the presence of any signals in the channel before it can be used for transmission, to prevent interference.
